Malik Javier McKenzie, Possession of Controlled Substances, GA 2024

Savannah, GA – In a stunning blow to drug trafficking operations in Georgia, Malik Javier McKenzie, 27, has been sentenced to 595 months imprisonment after being convicted on multiple counts, including Possession of Controlled Substances With Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Machinegun in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.

The sentence, imposed by Chief Judge R. Stan Baker, also includes consecutive sentences for jury tampering and previous violations of supervised release. McKenzie attempted to bribe a juror with a promise of a not guilty verdict during his trial, but the attempt was thwarted before it could succeed.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley R. Thompson prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States, working alongside law enforcement agencies including the ATF, DEA, FBI, and Hinesville Police Department under the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program.

FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown highlighted McKenzie’s repeat offenses, saying, ‘This time, he tried to undermine our entire judicial system by attempting to bribe a juror. We are thankful for our federal and local partners for stopping this attempt.’

Acting DEA Atlanta Division Special Agent in Charge Jae W. Chung emphasized the DEA’s commitment to combating drug traffickers: ‘Today’s announcement demonstrates DEA’s emphatic commitment to attacking the drug dealers responsible for the devastation.’

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations and protect communities from violent crime.
