GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Lyle Daniel Mousseau, a 42-year-old resident of McLaughlin, South Dakota, has been hit with serious federal charges. According to the Department of Justice’s USAO, a federal grand jury has indicted Mousseau for third degree burglary and aiding and abetting.
Mousseau, who turned 42 last month, was formally charged on February 13, 2019. He faced U.S. Magistrate Judge William Gerdes in court on June 4, 2019, where he entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him.
The Indictment alleges that Mousseau and Alexander Guy Jones, age 26, broke into NAPA Auto and Truck of McLaughlin on or about July 11, 2018. The duo is accused of entering the unoccupied structure with the intention of committing larceny, a crime that carries significant penalties.
While Mousseau’s fate remains in limbo as his trial date has yet to be set, his co-conspirator, Alexander Guy Jones, has received his sentence. On June 4, 2019, Jones was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann to 11 months of imprisonment, followed by 3 years of supervised release. Additionally, Jones was ordered to pay a $100 fine into the Federal Crime Victims Fund for his role in the burglary.
The investigation leading to these charges was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri handling the prosecution. Mousseau is currently being held in custody by the U.S. Marshals Service until his trial date can be determined.
