Ronald Brown Otter, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, South Dakota 2012

McLaughlin, South Dakota – Two McLaughlin men face serious charges after being indicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

Ronald Brown Otter, 24, and Kenton Walks, 20, were indicted by a federal grand jury on November 13, 2014, for their alleged role in a violent assault that occurred on or about December 1, 2012.

According to the indictment, Otter and Walks allegedly assaulted an adult male victim with a wooden board and a knife, with the intent to do bodily harm. The two men are accused of aiding and abetting each other in the commission of the offense.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Otter and Walks appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on November 25, 2014, and both pled not guilty to the Indictment. The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuting the case.

Otter and Walks were released on bond pending trial, with a trial date yet to be set. The charge is merely an accusation, and the two men are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
