Mitesh Patel, Oxycodone Distribution Conspiracy, Pennsylvania 2024

Media, PA – A pharmacist in Media, Pennsylvania has been hit with a massive array of charges for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to distribute Oxycodone.

Mitesh Patel, 36, was today charged by Superseding Indictment with conspiracy to distribute oxycodone, money laundering conspiracy, and filing false tax returns. The announcement came from Acting United States Attorney Louis D. Lappen.

The indictment alleges that Patel, who was a registered pharmacist in Pennsylvania from 2008 through June 2013, conspired with others to illegally distribute Oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance. During this time, Patel owned three pharmacies: Dava Pharmacy, Dava #2 Pharmacy, and Drexel Hill Pharmacy.

According to the charges, Patel used his pharmacies to order large sums of Oxycodone, which he then provided to his coconspirators without prescription in exchange for money. He is also accused of laundering drug proceeds through various bank accounts associated with his pharmacies to hide the origins of the illegal funds.

Patel faces a maximum sentence of 49 years in prison, a special assessment of $500, lifetime supervised release, and a potential fine if convicted. The government is seeking forfeiture of over $2.7 million in proceeds from Patel’s unlawful activities.

The investigation into Patel was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, and the Philadelphia Police Department as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force program. Assistant United States Attorneys Jonathan B. Ortiz and David E. Troyer are prosecuting the case.

A Superseding Indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
