Bank Robbery Lands Omaha Man 60 Months Imprisonment
Omaha, Nebraska – In a brazen daylight robbery, Melvin L. Wilson, 40, of Omaha, Nebraska, and his accomplice, Skyler Sanders, targeted Bank of the West on August 16, 2019. The duo, driving a rented white Infiniti Q50 sports car, arrived at the bank at approximately 10:37 a.m.
While Wilson waited as the getaway driver, Sanders, wearing dark clothing and a black face mask, entered the bank and brandished a handgun. Sanders demanded money from the tellers and escaped with $36,959. The pair fled the scene in their vehicle, which was later found abandoned a few blocks away.
A thorough investigation by the Omaha Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation uncovered evidence linking Wilson to the crime. DNA analysis revealed Wilson’s DNA on a black mask found in the white Infiniti Q50. Sanders’ DNA was also found within the vehicle.
On October 18, 2021, Senior United States District Judge Joseph F. Bataillon sentenced Wilson to a total of 60 months’ imprisonment. Upon release from prison, Wilson will begin a five-year term of supervised release. Judge Bataillon also ordered Wilson to pay restitution in the amount of $36,959.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Omaha Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. While Sanders’ trial is ongoing, Wilson’s sentence brings closure to this chapter of the case.
As the community continues to rebuild and recover from the aftermath of the robbery, it is essential to remember the importance of justice and the rule of law.
