Tares Terrell Hearn, Methamphetamine Conspiracy, Louisiana 2023

SHREVEPORT, La. – Another drug pipeline from Texas gets choked off. Tares Terrell Hearn, 37, of Carthage, Texas, is headed to federal prison for over eleven years after being convicted of conspiring to flood the Shreveport area with methamphetamine. U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. handed down the 140-month sentence Wednesday, alongside a three-year term of supervised release.

The case, built on a May 10, 2016 bust, revealed Hearn as the architect of a drug transaction at a Greenwood, Louisiana gas station. Law enforcement agents tracked Hearn as he arranged the deal, and were present when Delton Williams Jr., 29, of Deberry, Texas, arrived on the scene in a Cadillac Escalade. Hearn, acting as the distributor, brazenly entered the vehicle and exited moments later with a package clearly concealed under his arm – a package brimming with the illicit drug.

The takedown wasn’t limited to Hearn. As officers moved in to arrest Hearn, they followed Williams to a nearby business, securing his arrest as well. A search of both men revealed significant amounts of cash, but the real evidence lay with Hearn: a substantial quantity of methamphetamine, far beyond personal use levels. The investigation quickly established that Williams was the transporter, hauling the drugs from Texas to Louisiana for Hearn to peddle on the streets.

This wasn’t a small-time operation. Authorities confirmed Williams was responsible for the movement of the drug, supplying Hearn with the product intended for widespread distribution. The conspiracy aimed to profit from the addiction and misery of others, and the court’s sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense. Hearn’s guilty plea, entered September 19, 2016, did little to soften the blow of a lengthy prison term.

Williams, already in custody, received his own sentence on February 1, 2017 – 70 months imprisonment and three years of supervised release. While shorter than Hearn’s, it underscores that both men will face consequences for their roles in this drug conspiracy. The DEA and the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office spearheaded the investigation, a testament to the collaborative effort needed to combat drug trafficking.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown prosecuted the case, securing the conviction and lengthy sentence for Hearn. The Grimy Times will continue to follow federal cases like this, exposing the networks and individuals who profit from the misery of others and holding them accountable for their crimes. This case serves as a stark reminder that crossing state lines to push poison doesn’t offer immunity from federal justice.
