BOWLING GREEN, KY – A Warren County drug operation led by Jason Borden, 47, has crumbled with a 17-year federal prison sentence handed down by District Judge Greg N. Stivers. Borden, a repeat offender, was convicted for his central role in a conspiracy to distribute crystal methamphetamine, United States Attorney John E. Kuhn, Jr. announced today. The sentence is followed by a ten-year period of supervised release; there is no parole in the federal system.
“This defendant has a long criminal history in the Bowling Green area,” Kuhn stated bluntly. “This seventeen-year sentence will remove a large supplier of illicit and dangerous drugs from the community.” The bust represents a significant victory for a joint task force, according to officials. “The federal and local law enforcement partnership working to remove dangerous criminals from Warren County is very effective, and I thank the ATF and the Warren County Drug Task Force for their efforts.”
The operation, spanning from December 2014 to February 2015, involved the shipment of one and a half pounds of nearly pure crystal methamphetamine from Santa Rosa, California, destined for the streets of Bowling Green. A controlled delivery orchestrated by the Bowling Green/Warren County Drug Task Force on February 13, 2015, caught Borden red-handed. Agents seized the package, along with $3,600 in cash, digital scales, and a loaded .32 caliber revolver containing six rounds of ammunition from Borden at the time of his arrest. Lab tests confirmed the methamphetamine was 100% pure.
Even after his arrest, Borden continued to run the operation from jail, directing co-conspirator Joshua Preston Moore to collect drug money and recover hidden methamphetamine. He wasn’t shy about his past either, openly admitting to law enforcement he’d previously moved “pounds of meth” and boasted ties to the Outlaws motorcycle gang. Borden’s criminal record is extensive, with prior felony convictions in Warren, Barren, Christian, and Logan County Circuit Courts.
Moore, already having pleaded guilty to three counts of a superseding indictment on March 14, 2016, faces a minimum 15-year prison sentence. Another co-defendant, Charles Henry Ickes, is scheduled to stand trial before Judge Stivers on June 13, 2017. Stuart Lowrey, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF’s Louisville Field Division, emphasized the impact of the takedown. “This armed drug trafficker has plagued the Bowling Green area for years…We applaud the efforts of the law enforcement agencies participating in the Warren County Drug Task Force and this significant investigation, which will impact violent crime.”
Assistant United States Attorney Jo E. Lawless prosecuted the case, a collaborative effort by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Bowling Green/Warren County Drug Task Force, and the United States Postal Inspection Service. The investigation serves as a stark reminder that federal and local agencies are actively dismantling drug networks and bringing repeat offenders like Jason Borden to justice, even when they attempt to operate from behind bars.
