BOWLING GREEN, KY – Joshua O. Duncan, 40, of Bowling Green, is facing a long stretch behind bars after being sentenced to 18 years and 4 months in federal prison on August 26, 2025. Duncan was convicted on charges of possessing with intent to distribute a staggering amount of narcotics – 4,667 grams of methamphetamine and 574.08 grams of fentanyl – alongside multiple firearms offenses.
The bust, a joint operation involving the ATF Louisville Field Division and the Bowling Green/Warren County Appalachia High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (AHIDTA) Drug Task Force, revealed Duncan wasn’t just dealing; he was armed to the teeth. Authorities seized a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver, a Springfield Armory .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol, a Ruger .380 caliber semiautomatic pistol, and a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber semiautomatic pistol, all allegedly used to protect his illicit operation. This wasn’t a first offense; Duncan’s rap sheet is long and ugly.
Court records show Duncan previously snagged felony convictions in Logan Circuit Court for trafficking controlled substances. He was convicted on August 21, 2018, for first-degree trafficking in methamphetamine (over 2 grams). Before that, in 2012 and 2010, he faced separate convictions for first-degree cocaine trafficking. The repeat offender status clearly weighed heavily on the judge, who handed down the maximum possible sentence. The sentencing includes 5 years of supervised release following his prison term.
U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner didn’t mince words, stating, “Joshua Duncan is a longtime drug dealer in and around Warren County that was given plenty of chances to reform his behavior. Unfortunately, he doubled down on his criminal ways, distributing even more methamphetamine and fentanyl into our community while armed with four handguns. Warren County is safer today because of this lengthy sentence.” The sentiment was echoed by ATF Special Agent in Charge John Nokes, who emphasized the collaborative effort to target drug dealers and violence in Central Kentucky.
Director Tommy Loving of the AHIDTA Task Force added, “This case underscores the continued cooperation of law enforcement partners…working together to bring cases before the United States Attorney for prosecution and sentencing without the possibility of parole.” And there *is* no parole in the federal system – Duncan will serve every minute of his 18-year sentence. This case is part of “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide push to dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
Assistant United States Attorney Mark J. Yurchisin II led the prosecution. The investigation was conducted by the ATF Bowling Green Field Office and the Bowling Green/Warren County Appalachia High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (AHIDTA) Drug Task Force. This conviction sends a clear message: flood the streets with poison and pack heat, and you’ll find yourself facing decades in a federal penitentiary.
