Meth Kingpin

⏱ 2 min read

A Canadian national, Guramrit Sidhu, 62, pleaded guilty to leading a massive drug trafficking operation that smuggled over 850 kilograms of methamphetamine and cocaine from the United States into Canada. The operation, which lasted from September 2020 to February 2023, brought in an estimated $15 million to $17 million worth of drugs. Sidhu, who is from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, orchestrated the distribution of eight separate drug loads between September 13, 2022, and October 24, 2022.

Sidhu’s operation involved buying bulk quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine in the US and then transporting them into Canada via long-haul semi-trucks. He provided telephone numbers and serial numbers on bills of currency for couriers to use as identification during the delivery and transportation of the drugs. Once the drugs were in Canada, Sidhu and his co-conspirators would retrieve them for further distribution.

Sidhu’s guilty plea is the result of a federal indictment that was unsealed in January 2024. He has been in federal custody since October 2024, after being extradited from Canada. Sidhu is the seventh defendant to plead guilty in this matter, and several other defendants have also pleaded guilty to criminal charges.

Sidhu is scheduled to be sentenced on July 9 and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a statutory maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The case is being handled by the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
