Charles Jesse Sanchez, a 61-year-old Billings man, has pleaded guilty to trafficking methamphetamine on the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservations. Sanchez, also known as ‘Chuck’, was caught by the FBI and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) on June 19, 2023, after a confidential source purchased four ounces of meth from him in Billings. The meth was hidden inside a package of baby wipes. Sanchez has a history of meth-related convictions, including a 2000 conviction for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and a 2017 conviction for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The investigation revealed that Sanchez coordinated the purchase of meth with the confidential source through Facebook messages. He is now facing a mandatory minimum of 10 years to life imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine, and at least 5 years of supervised release. U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy J. Cavan presided over the change of plea hearing, and sentencing will be determined by U.S. District Judge Kathleen S. Lane at a later date.
Sanchez’s guilty plea is a significant blow to meth trafficking in the region.
