Waterloo, Iowa – A 31-year-old Mexican citizen, Marcelino Aguilar-Vicente, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States after being deported. Aguilar-Vicente, who resides in Waterloo, pleaded guilty on July 15, 2014, to one count of illegal reentry following his conviction for an aggravated felony.
In May 2014, Aguilar-Vicente was apprehended by Immigration authorities in Black Hawk County, Iowa, after being arrested for traffic violations. He admitted during his plea that he had illegally returned to the U.S. following deportation in March 2007. Prior to his deportation, Aguilar-Vicente faced convictions in Virginia on charges of obtaining money by false pretenses, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, and multiple counts of grand larceny.
The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade in Cedar Rapids. Along with the 24-month prison term, Aguilar-Vicente was ordered to pay a special assessment of $100 and serve a three-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment. There is no parole available in the federal system.
Aguilar-Vicente is currently being held by the United States Marshal’s Service pending transfer to a federal prison facility.
