Ignacio Soriano-Ruiz, Illegal Reentry, Texas 2024

A 29-year-old Mexican man is behind bars, accused of sneaking back into the United States after being deported four years ago. Ignacio Soriano-Ruiz, 29, was charged on May 24, 2024, with reentry of a previously removed alien, a felony offense.

According to court documents, Soriano-Ruiz was previously deported on January 14, 2018. He faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years, followed by up to three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00.

The charge was brought against Soriano-Ruiz by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, led by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.

Evan’s office praised the work of the United States Customs and Border Protection in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.

The U.S. Attorney Evans reiterated that a bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Soriano-Ruiz’s case highlights the ongoing issue of immigration and border security in the United States. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case.

The charge of reentry of a previously removed alien is a serious offense, and Soriano-Ruiz faces significant penalties if convicted. The trial date has not been set yet, and the case is ongoing.
