Mexican National Charged with Illegal Reentry

A 32-year-old Mexican citizen, Antonio Rodriguez-Gallardo, faces charges for illegal reentry into the United States after being previously removed from the country.

According to a one-count indictment, Rodriguez-Gallardo reentered the United States on or about September 4, 2014, after being previously removed on October 29, 2012.

Rodriguez-Gallardo, who most recently resided in Houma, Louisiana, could face a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, a maximum fine of $250,000, a maximum term of supervised release of one year, and a mandatory $100 special assessment if convicted.

U. S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite reminded the public that an indictment is merely a charge, and the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Assistant U. S. Attorney Spiro G. Latsis is in charge of the prosecution, and U. S. Attorney Polite praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations in investigating the matter.

Rodriguez-Gallardo’s case is a stark reminder of the consequences of reentering the United States after being removed. The U. S. government takes these cases seriously, and individuals who reenter the country illegally will face the full force of the law.

The indictment against Rodriguez-Gallardo serves as a warning to others who may be considering similar actions. The U. S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe and uphold the law.
