Orlando, FL – In a shocking verdict, Ramon Lopez-Alvarado, a 58-year-old citizen of Mexico, has been found guilty of one count of illegal re-entry into the United States. Lopez-Alvarado’s conviction is a result of his repeated attempts to enter the country despite being previously removed in 2000, 2009, and 2013.
Lopez-Alvarado’s troubles began when he claimed to be a naturalized United States citizen, despite his naturalization application having been denied. This claim was later found to be a ruse, and he was discovered to be back in the Orlando area on March 17, 2018.
But that’s not all – Lopez-Alvarado also pleaded guilty to one count of failure to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). His previous felony convictions for committing a lewd act on a child and failing to register as a sex offender have put him in hot water with the law.
As a result of his guilty verdict, Lopez-Alvarado faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. His sentencing is scheduled for November 14, 2018. Assistant United States Attorney Kara M. Wick will be leading the prosecution of this case.
The case against Lopez-Alvarado was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement Removal Operations and the U.S. Marshals Service. This collaboration has once again proven the importance of inter-agency cooperation in the pursuit of justice.
The guilty verdict in this case serves as a reminder of the consequences of breaking the law. Lopez-Alvarado’s actions have put him in a precarious position, and his future hangs in the balance.
Lopez-Alvarado’s case is a stark reminder of the importance of immigration laws and the need for individuals to register as sex offenders. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
