Mariano Gomez Padilla, Methamphetamine Distribution, Arizona 2024

PHOENIX, Ariz. – In a major drug enforcement operation, three Mexican nationals were charged with Conspiracy to Possess with the Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, totaling over 133 pounds of the substance.

Mariano Gomez Padilla, 28, Eduardo Garcia Lopez, 21, and Abel Martinez Valenzuela, 25, all residents of Arizona, were apprehended after a high-speed chase that resulted in significant property damage. The DEA East Valley Drug Enforcement Task Force agents established surveillance at an apartment complex in Glendale, Arizona, as they anticipated a methamphetamine purchase.

During the pursuit, Garcia Lopez fled on foot but was captured shortly thereafter. Gomez Padilla rammed his vehicle into an agent’s car and two parked vehicles, causing substantial damage. Both Gomez Padilla and Martinez Valenzuela were also taken into custody after their attempt to flee on foot.

In a coordinated effort, agents seized 61.75 pounds of methamphetamine from Garcia Lopez’s car and another 71.75 pounds from an associated Ford F-250. The total amount of methamphetamine exceeds the mandatory minimum penalty threshold for conspiracy to distribute, which carries a sentence of 10 years up to life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000,000.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The DEA Phoenix East Valley Drug Enforcement Task Force HIDTA and the Mesa Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stuart Zander is handling the prosecution.
