MIAMI, FL – Brandon Kevin Campbell, 28, of Miami, is facing federal charges after allegedly terrorizing at least ten victims with a relentless campaign of cyberstalking and gruesome threats, according to a criminal complaint unsealed today. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida and the FBI’s Miami Field Office announced the charges, detailing a pattern of harassment that spanned over a year.
Prosecutors allege that Campbell’s obsession with a former girlfriend drove him to bombard her with hundreds of unwanted calls and texts. Between April 1, 2019, and mid-May 2020, Campbell allegedly dialed his ex-girlfriend’s cell phone over 850 times, her workplace approximately 2,000 times, and her sister’s workplace a staggering 1,700 times. He reportedly attempted to hide his identity by utilizing the *67 call-blocking feature, but the sheer volume of calls raised immediate red flags.
The complaint paints a chilling picture of Campbell’s escalating threats. In text messages and phone calls, he allegedly spewed violent language, including statements like, “Ima kill you you f***ing smut,” “I can’t wait till you die,” and the terrifying, “I can’t wait to watch your soul leave your body.” The threats weren’t limited to the former girlfriend; Campbell allegedly extended his harassment to those around her – her sister, friends, and co-workers. One text to the sister reportedly read: “I’m at your house I swear to god ima kill [your sister] …Watch she dead.”
The FBI’s investigation, triggered by a tip to the National Threat Operations Center, revealed Campbell didn’t stop there. He allegedly threatened a friend of his former girlfriend with, “Police cannot save you. Promise. You going to die. Promise.” Disturbingly, Campbell also allegedly called the former girlfriend’s workplace, threatening a mass shooting followed by suicide, according to the complaint. These threats were not idle boasts, investigators believe, but a clear and present danger.
Campbell made his initial appearance in Miami federal court today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lauren Fleischer Louis, who ordered him detained pending trial. If convicted, Campbell faces up to five years in federal prison. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Yara Klukas, with the investigation led by the FBI Miami Field Office.
