A South Bend man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a shocking crime that left authorities stunned. Michael Dale Kindley, 45, was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a charge that carries significant penalties.
According to documents filed in the case, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop in August of 2020, where they learned that Kindley was driving without a valid driver’s license in a car that did not belong to him. Furthermore, a handgun, over $2,000 cash, and two bags filled with an assortment of prescription pills were found in his possession. It was later discovered that Kindley was on probation for a felony conviction of possessing methamphetamine.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Indiana State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Schultz prosecuted the case.
This case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program.
