Boulder City Man Receives 20-Month Prison Sentence For Assaulting Wife At Lake Mead National Recreation Area
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Michael David Thompson, a 66-year-old man from Boulder City, was sentenced to 20 months in prison for assaulting his wife while they were camping together at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Thompson repeatedly punched his wife’s face and body on September 21, 2020, at the Boulder Beach Campground within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The victim suffered significant injuries.
Thompson’s history of domestic violence caught up with him when he was convicted in 2008 of misdemeanor battery and felony intimidation of a witness for assaulting his then-girlfriend. While on probation, he committed a second felony battery against the same victim. In 2001, he was convicted of battery against a child, further highlighting his pattern of violent behavior.
On May 11, 2021, a federal jury convicted Thompson of one count of felony assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a spouse or intimate partner. In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey sentenced Thompson to two years of supervised release.
This case was investigated by the National Park Service. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Kent and Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Brister prosecuted the case. Acting U.S. Attorney Christopher Chiou for the District of Nevada made the announcement.
Thompson’s case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence. It is imperative that we hold perpetrators accountable for their actions and provide support to victims of abuse.
