McMINNVILLE, OREGON – In a move aimed at curbing the growing methamphetamine crisis in Yamhill County, a local man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in the illicit trade.
Last Tuesday, Michael L. Scott, 39, of McMinnville, Oregon, was sentenced to federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, Scott was arrested and charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, in violation of 21 U.S.C. · 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(B). The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment, a $1 million fine, and a 3-year term of supervised release.
On March 5, 2024, Scott pleaded guilty to the charge, admitting to possessing approximately 1.3 kilograms of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it in Yamhill County.
U.S. District Court Judge Karin J. Immergut imposed a sentence of 72 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years’ supervised release. In addition to the prison term, Scott was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment fee.
The case was investigated by the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), with assistance from the Oregon State Police.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in bringing Scott to justice.
