Michael Lanham, Production of Child Pornography, New York 2023

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A local registered sex offender has been put behind bars for 30 years for producing child pornography.

Michael Lanham, 35, of Niagara Falls, NY, was sentenced to serve 360 months in prison by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. following his conviction for production of child pornography with a prior sex offense.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Caitlin M. Higgins, Lanham was convicted of Rape in the Third Degree, Victim Less than 17-Year-Old, Perpetrator 21 years or more, in New York State Court in December 2010, and is a registered sex offender.

In September 2020, Lanham took a sexually explicit photo of a minor victim on his cell phone. In October 2020, he distributed the image of the minor victim in a private online message to an undercover law enforcement officer on the Kik application.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Child Exploitation Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.

Lanham’s prior conviction and status as a registered sex offender made him a serious threat to the community, and his actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and the well-being of children.

As a result of Lanham’s actions, a minor victim has been left to deal with the devastating consequences of his crimes, including the distribution of explicit images that can cause long-term harm.

The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.

This sentence serves as a reminder that those who prey on and exploit children will be held accountable for their actions and face severe consequences.
