A man with a history of sexual misconduct has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for producing child pornography, violating the trust of another victim.
Michael Lanham, a 35-year-old registered sex offender from Niagara Falls, was sentenced to serve 360 months in prison by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr., following his conviction for production of child pornography with a prior sex offense.
Lanham’s crime was part of a disturbing pattern. In 2010, he was convicted of Rape in the Third Degree, Victim Less than 17-Year-Old, Perpetrator 21 years or more, in New York State Court. His actions as a registered sex offender only escalated, with investigators finding that he took a sexually explicit photo of a minor victim on his cell phone in 2020.
Lanham’s distribution of the child pornography was brazen, sending the image to an undercover law enforcement officer on the Kik application in October 2020. Assistant U.S. Attorney Caitlin M. Higgins stated that Lanham’s actions demonstrate a clear disregard for the law and for the well-being of his victims.
The investigation into Lanham’s crimes was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Child Exploitation Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by registered sex offenders and the importance of continued vigilance in protecting our communities.
As a result of Lanham’s sentencing, he will now face the consequences of his actions, serving 30 years in prison for producing child pornography. His case serves as a warning to those who would seek to exploit and harm our most vulnerable citizens.
