A 21-year-old Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for attempting to entice a minor using the internet.
Carter Joe Tyree was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
Tyree must also register as a sex offender upon his release from federal prison.
The conviction stemmed from an incident on March 8, 2024, when Tyree attempted to use online mobile apps on his cell phone to persuade and coerce an undercover agent posing as a 13-year-old female to engage in sexual activity.
Tyree was indicted by a federal grand jury in March of 2024 and pleaded guilty on July 8, 2024.
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Sioux Falls Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth A. Ebert-Webb prosecuted the case.
Tyree was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
