A former NYPD police officer has been sentenced to 33 months imprisonment for his role in a bribery scheme that involved steering damaged vehicles to a tow trucking business he owned.
Michael Perri, 34, of East Islip, New York, was sentenced by United States District Judge Rachel P. Kovner to 33 months of imprisonment and a $25,000 fine for conspiring to use interstate facilities to commit bribery.
According to court filings, Perri orchestrated a scheme to pay thousands of dollars in bribes to two of his co-defendants, James Davneiro and Giancarlo Osma, for their corrupt agreement to assist his automobile repair and tow trucking business.
Davneiro and Osma, both former NYPD police officers, responded to automobile accidents and directed the damaged vehicles to Perri’s business instead of using the NYPD’s Directed Accident Response Program (DARP).
As a result of the scheme, Perri’s business profited over $150,000, and he paid his co-defendants over $50,000 in bribes.
Davneiro, 44, of Bayside, New York, was sentenced to one year of imprisonment in March 2023, while Osma, 40, of Deer Park, New York, was sentenced to 14 months’ imprisonment in April 2023.
The government’s case is being handled by the Office’s Public Integrity Section, with Assistant United States Attorney Ryan C. Harris in charge of the prosecution.
This is not the first time that Perri has been involved in a corruption scheme. In November 2022, he pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiring to use interstate facilities to commit bribery.
