A Kansas City, Kan., man has been charged with selling methamphetamine near an elementary school, federal authorities announced today.
Michael Pruitt, 48, is accused of distributing methamphetamine on three separate occasions in November 2018, within 1,000 feet of Junction Elementary School, located at 2570 S. 42nd Street in Kansas City, Kan.
According to court documents, undercover investigators purchased methamphetamine from Pruitt on three different days in November 2018. The transactions took place at a business located at 4200 Shawnee Drive. A search of the business turned up nearly two pounds of methamphetamine.
Pruitt is charged with two counts of distributing methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of the school. If convicted, he faces a penalty of not less than five years on the first distribution count, and not less than 10 years on each of the other counts.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri Catania is prosecuting.
Pruitt is currently in federal custody. He is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictment merely contains allegations of criminal conduct.
