Defendant Convicted of Meth Trafficking in Kansas
A Wichita man has been found guilty of distributing methamphetamine in a federal court. Ashton B. Malone, 34, was convicted on two counts of distributing methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said.
The conviction comes after a yearlong investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in south central Kansas. During the trial, the prosecutor presented evidence that Malone twice sold over 41 grams of methamphetamine to an undercover investigator in May and June 2017.
The case was a joint effort between the Park City Police Department, the KBI, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Furst. McAllister commended the agencies for their work on the case, stating their dedication to combatting methamphetamine trafficking in the region.
Malone faces a penalty of not less than five years and not more than 40 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on each count. He is set for sentencing on September 24.
The conviction is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trafficking ring in south central Kansas. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the sale and distribution of illicit substances in the region.
As the investigation continues, residents in Wichita and surrounding areas can expect to see increased law enforcement presence aimed at disrupting the flow of methamphetamine into the community.
