A local Corpus Christi man has been found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm in a federal court in Texas.
Michael Pulido, 30, was convicted by a federal jury in Corpus Christi after a one-day trial on February 7, 2024. The jury deliberated for just 17 minutes before returning the guilty verdict.
The case began when authorities responded to a criminal mischief complaint at a local apartment complex. During the investigation, they discovered Pulido had fired four gunshots inside his apartment.
Further investigation revealed that Pulido had a prior felony conviction, making him prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
The defense attempted to argue that the gun belonged to someone else, but the jury was not convinced. U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos presided over the trial and set sentencing for April 15.
At sentencing, Pulido faces up to five years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine. The investigation was conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Yasmine Tucker and Ashley Martin prosecuted the case.
The guilty verdict marks a significant blow to Pulido, who will now face the consequences of his actions. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting and following federal laws regarding firearms.
