Winter Garden Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison for Child Sex Abuse Material
Michael Remaley, a 22-year-old resident of Winter Garden, Florida, has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for producing and receiving child sex abuse material. The sentencing took place in Orlando, Florida, on a previously undisclosed date this year.
According to court documents, between July 3, 2023, and July 16, 2023, Remaley used the Snapchat application to entice a 14-year-old girl to send him sexually explicit videos of herself. Remaley also shared with a second Snapchat user several media files depicting child sex abuse material, including a video of a female child between the ages of five and eight years old being sexually abused.
Remaley had pleaded guilty to the charges on July 18, 2023. This sentence is the result of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie A. McNeff.
HSI Assistant Special Agent in Charge David Pezzutti stated, “Removing predators like Remaley from society and away from victimizing young children will always be a focus of our HSI special agents. This significant sentence is a testament to our partnership with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. Together, we’ll continue to protect our most vulnerable from becoming lifetime victims.”
Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006, is a partnership between law enforcement agencies and the U.S. Attorney’s Offices to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative has led to the location, apprehension, and prosecution of individuals who sexually exploit children, as well as the identification and rescue of victims.
The case against Remaley is part of Project Safe Childhood’s efforts to bring justice to victims of child sex abuse material production and receipt. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida and HSI will continue to work together to protect the most vulnerable members of society from predators like Remaley.
