Miguel Alejandro Morales-Garcia, Sexually Exploiting a Child, Texas 2018

Houston resident Miguel Alejandro Morales-Garcia has been handed down a lengthy sentence for producing child pornography, officials announced today.

On February 7, 2018, Morales-Garcia pleaded guilty to the charges. Yesterday, District Judge David Hittner sentenced him to 327 months in prison, followed by a lifetime term of supervised release. During this time, he will have to comply with numerous requirements to restrict his access to children and the internet. Additionally, he will be ordered to register as a sex offender.

Morales-Garcia’s sentence comes on the heels of another local man receiving a 35-year sentence for similar crimes. The investigation into Morales-Garcia’s activities began when an agent with Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) entered an online chat room. The agent observed a user, later identified as Morales-Garcia, streaming a live video of a minor female who was three to five years of age.

Through the investigation, agents identified the minor victim as a relative of Morales-Garcia. A forensic examination of his iPhone, conducted pursuant to a federal search warrant, revealed images of Morales-Garcia engaging in sexual contact with the minor victim.

Morales-Garcia has been in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility, which will be determined in the near future. The investigation was conducted by HSI.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Ann Leo as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
