Florida Woman Banned from Preparing Tax Returns
WASHINGTON – In a shocking turn of events, the government has permanently banned a Florida woman from preparing tax returns for others. Milagros Espinal, a resident of Hialeah, Florida, has been at the center of a massive tax preparation fraud scheme.
According to the government, Espinal has been preparing tax returns with fake or exaggerated deductions and false claims for tax credits, including the earned income tax credit and the child tax credit. The government estimates that her actions resulted in her clients’ tax returns being $10 million or more lower than they should have been between 2004 and 2007.
It is alleged that Espinal prepared at least 2,000 tax returns during this period. To add insult to injury, Espinal has agreed to provide a copy of the injunction to her clients, publish a copy in The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald, and turn over information that identifies her clients to the government.
As part of the settlement, Espinal has agreed to stop preparing tax returns for others. This move comes as part of a broader effort by the government to crack down on tax preparation fraud. In the last 10 years, the IRS has obtained hundreds of injunctions to stop promoters of tax scams and preparers of fake tax returns.
The government has made it clear that it will not tolerate tax preparation fraud. With the ban in place, Espinal will no longer be able to prepare tax returns for others. Her actions have resulted in significant financial losses for her clients, and she will face the consequences of her actions.
The ban is a major victory for the government and a warning to others who may be considering engaging in similar activities. It is a reminder that tax preparation fraud will not be tolerated and that those who engage in such activities will face severe consequences.
