Washington – Antoine Miller, 34, of Washington, D.C., was found guilty in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on February 2, 2017, following a bench trial for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.
In an earlier case, Miller was sentenced in 2004 to 11 years and eight months in prison followed by three years of supervised release after being convicted of drug and weapons offenses. Now, he faces up to 10 years in prison and potential financial penalties for this latest offense.
Miller’s downfall began on March 31, 2016, when members of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Narcotics and Special Investigation Division observed him walking with another person on the sidewalk. During a routine stop, Miller initially claimed to have no guns but later admitted to having one and handed it over after repeated requests from officers.
The firearm was identified as a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber loaded with 9 rounds of ammunition. U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips and Interim MPD Chief Peter Newsham commended the actions of law enforcement involved in the case, including Paralegal Specialists Jeannette Litz and Teesha Tobias, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Emory V. Cole and Veronica Jennings.
Miller will be sentenced on May 4, 2017, and is also facing revocation of his probation from the earlier case. The Court has ordered him to remain in custody without bond pending sentencing.
