A 29-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged with threatening to kill a United States Probation Officer.
Ramon Alvarado, a member of the Latin King gang, is accused of making the threat in 2013 against a probation officer who was supervising him after his release from prison.
Alvarado was originally charged via Criminal Complaint on April 5, 2013, and a federal grand jury later returned a one-count indictment charging him with threatening to kill the officer.
The indictment alleges that on March 26, 2013, Alvarado threatened to kill the employee of the United States Probation Office in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, with the intent to retaliate against the employee on account of the performance of her official duties.
If convicted, Alvarado faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kelly B. Watzka.
An indictment is merely the formal method of charging an individual and does not constitute evidence of his or her guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
