Paul Ernest Sellors, Counterfeit Court Seal Scheme, Minnesota 2013

MINNEAPOLIS – The gritty streets of Minneapolis witnessed the capture of 69-year-old Paul Ernest Sellors on Wednesday. The seasoned criminal, hailing from Saint Anthony, Minnesota, stands accused of using a counterfeit seal of a United States Court in a daring scheme that spanned across state lines.

Sellors was nabbed by the FBI’s Minneapolis Joint Terrorism Task Force without incident. The warrant for his arrest had been issued by a federal magistrate judge in Denver on May 1, 2013, after he skipped an initial appearance on the charges against him.

The charges stem from an April indictment that alleges Sellors and his co-defendant, Ronald Roy Hoddenpyle, age 70, of Colorado Springs, forged the seal of the “United States of America, District Court, District of Minnesota” to authenticate fraudulent documents. Among these were orders to set trial by jury, custody orders, and rescheduling of jury trials.

Hoddenpyle faces a five-day jury trial starting July 15, 2013, before U.S. District Judge Christine M. Arguello in Denver’s federal court. He is currently in custody. Sellors had his initial appearance in Minneapolis on Wednesday, with a detention and identity hearing set for Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CDT.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys from the District of Utah are handling the prosecution of Sellors and Hoddenpyle’s case, while special agents of the FBI, the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, and the U.S. Marshals Service are investigating.
