Madison, Wis. – In a gritty blow against the meth trade, Roxanne E. Rankin, 52, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. The sentence, handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson, will be followed by 48 months of supervised release.
The downfall of Rankin began on December 6, 2021, when West Central Drug Task Force officers arranged a sting operation. Through a confidential informant, they purchased one pound of meth from Rankin. She delivered half at an agreed location in Hudson, Wisconsin, and was nabbed with 222 grams during her attempt to retrieve the second half.
Rankin’s arrest came as no surprise; she was already on probation out of Minnesota. But it was her prior federal conviction for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine in 2002 that added two aggravating factors to her case, according to Judge Peterson.
The West Central Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation that led to Rankin’s conviction, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven P. Anderson prosecuted the case with unwavering determination.
Judge Peterson emphasized the serious nature of drug trafficking on the community during sentencing. ‘Rankin’s actions have a devastating impact on our communities,’ he stated, underscoring the gravity of her crime.
This sentence sends a clear message that those who traffic in dangerous drugs will face severe consequences under federal law. The Grimy Times will continue to report on such cases, shining a light on the relentless fight against drug trafficking across the nation.
