LEXINGTON, Ky. – A family’s decades-long scheme to defraud their longtime employer has landed three members of a Nicholasville family behind bars.
Joyce Minton, 65, Aaron Brooke Warren, 43, and James Minton, 70, all of Nicholasville, were sentenced to 97 months, 46 months, and 18 months in federal prison, respectively, for their roles in the conspiracy to defraud Clark Machine Tool and Die, a Nicholasville business.
The Mintons, along with Aaron Brooke Warren, conspired to defraud their employer of over $1,500,000 between February 2000 and May 2016. They used company checks and credit cards to purchase personal items, cashed and kept company petty cash checks, issued themselves extra paychecks, and inflated their paychecks, and kept money that customers had paid the company for work.
The jury convicted Joyce Minton of 46 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering; Aaron Brooke Warren was convicted of 34 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, and money laundering; and James Minton was convicted of seven counts of conspiracy and mail fraud.
Senior United States District Judge Joseph M. Hood formally sentenced the Mintons and Aaron Brooke Warren. They must serve 85 percent of their prison sentence.
Carlton S. Shier, IV, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, along with other federal authorities, announced the sentences. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Neeraj Gupta and Ken Taylor prosecuted the case on behalf of the federal government.
The case serves as a reminder of the severity of white-collar crimes and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
