James Keith Wolfe, Receipt of Child Pornography, Kentucky 2024

James Keith Wolfe, 55, of Olive Hill, Ky., is headed to federal prison for 11 years after admitting to receiving thousands of images and hundreds of videos depicting child sexual abuse.

U.S. District Judge David L. Bunning handed down the sentence, which requires Wolfe to serve at least 85 percent of the term before release. Upon completion of his prison time, Wolfe will face a mandatory 20-year period of supervised release, placing him under strict federal oversight for decades to come.

Wolfe pleaded guilty in August 2016 to a single count of receipt of child pornography. The charge stems from a September 2015 investigation launched after law enforcement traced illegal downloads directly to his computer through a peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing network.

Agents from the FBI and other law enforcement units executed a search warrant at Wolfe’s Olive Hill residence, seizing multiple devices including laptop computers, thumb drives, and two Dell tower systems. Forensic analysis revealed more than 3,800 still images and 670 videos of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The digital trail painted a damning picture: Wolfe wasn’t just a passive possessor—he actively sought out and downloaded exploitative material, exploiting technology to access the darkest corners of the internet. Each file represents a child victim, their trauma preserved and circulated by predators like Wolfe.

Carlton S. Shier, IV, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and FBI Special Agent in Charge Amy Hess confirmed the outcome of the case. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Marye, underscoring the federal government’s continued push to target child exploitation at every level.
