Robert Stanton Sexton, 28, of Corinth, Kentucky, is headed to federal prison for more than a decade after admitting to trafficking child pornography across digital platforms. On Friday, U.S. District Judge David Bunning handed down a 132-month sentence for the grim crime, marking another conviction in the federal crackdown on online child exploitation.
Sexton’s digital trail led straight to his front door. According to his guilty plea, on October 3, 2018, he used his Tumblr account to upload at least seven video files showing prepubescent children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. When law enforcement arrived at his home, Sexton confessed—he had not only viewed and downloaded the material but admitted to transporting it. His own cell phone held the evidence: approximately 20 nude images of a minor girl with whom he had been exchanging text messages.
Even more disturbing, investigators revealed Sexton sent nude images of himself to another underage girl via text. The exchange was not isolated—it was part of a pattern of predatory behavior enabled by social media and encrypted messaging. Sexton didn’t hide his actions. He admitted to every charge during questioning, laying bare the extent of his crimes in chilling detail.
Sexton pleaded guilty in May 2020 and now faces the consequences under strict federal sentencing rules. He is required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before release. That means more than 11 years behind bars—time carved out of a young life spent violating the innocence of others.
Upon release, his freedom will remain shackled. Sexton will be under supervised probation for 25 years—a lifetime watch by the U.S. Probation Office. The court’s message is clear: those who exploit children online will face relentless pursuit and enduring consequences.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (DHS-HSI) and Kentucky State Police, and announced jointly by Robert M. Duncan, Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Jerry Templet, Special Agent in Charge of DHS-HSI; and Commissioner Rodney Brewer of the Kentucky State Police.
