BUFFALO, N.Y. – A Forestville man has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, leaving many in the community outraged.
According to court documents, 55-year-old Joseph Harvey possessed 37 videos and 51 images of child pornography, including depictions of violence and prepubescent minors.
The case against Harvey began with an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin Kelly. The investigation revealed that Harvey exchanged text messages with another man between January 16 and May 14, 2016, discussing child pornography and distributing images.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan P. Cantil stated that the images included ‘depictions of violence’ and ‘prepubescent minors.’ This disturbing content has left many wondering how such crimes can occur in their own backyard.
Harvey’s guilty plea comes after a lengthy investigation, which ultimately uncovered the shocking extent of his crimes. The defendant now faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The sentencing for Harvey is scheduled for September 17, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. before U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
For those affected by child pornography, the guilty plea of Joseph Harvey may bring some measure of relief. However, the true extent of the damage caused by such crimes can never be fully known.
