Child Pornography Convict Sentenced to 24 Months in Prison

A Georgia man has been sentenced to serve 24 months in prison for his conviction on a child pornography charge. Ibrahim Dirweesh, 35, of Atlanta, Georgia, was convicted of possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor.

Dirweesh was detained by Customs and Border Protection officers at the Peace Bridge Port of Entry on August 22, 2018, following a secondary inspection. During the inspection, images and videos of child pornography were discovered on his cell phone.

The videos were sexual in nature and involved pre-pubescent children as young as two years-old. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth R. Moellering handled the case and stated that the discovery of the child pornography was a result of a thorough inspection.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations. U.S. Customs and Border Protection was under the direction of Director of Field Operations Rose Brophy, and Homeland Security Investigations was under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin Kelly.

U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced the sentencing and thanked the agencies involved in the investigation. The case highlights the importance of vigilance at our nation’s borders in preventing the spread of child pornography.

Dirweesh’s sentence serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of possessing and distributing child pornography. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
