Cheektowaga Man Sentenced to 48 Months for Possessing 200,000 Images of Child Pornography

A 49-year-old man from Cheektowaga, New York, has been sentenced to 48 months in federal prison for possessing over 200,000 images of child pornography. Michael P. Daly, 49, of Cheektowaga, was convicted of possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor and was sentenced to serve 25 years supervised release by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.

As part of his sentence, Daly was also ordered to pay $23,000 in victim-related assessments. The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Police, and the Cheektowaga Police Department.

The investigation began in June 2019 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a report from Microsoft Bing that one of their users uploaded an image of child pornography. A subsequent investigation traced the image to Daly, leading to a search warrant being executed at his residence on October 22, 2020.

During the search, investigators seized a laptop computer, a flash drive, and an iPhone. A forensic search of all three items recovered over 200,000 images and 95 videos of child pornography, including depictions of prepubescent minors and violence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango handled the case, and praised the work of the investigators involved in the case. ‘This sentence is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the investigators who brought this case to justice,’ Mango said.

The sentencing of Daly is a significant victory for the community and a reminder that those who engage in this heinous crime will be held accountable. As a society, we must continue to work towards creating a safe and protected environment for all, particularly for our most vulnerable members.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Miraglia, the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Stanley Edwards, III, and the Cheektowaga Police Department, under the direction of Chief Brian Coons, worked collaboratively to bring this case to justice.

The case serves as a reminder that the production, distribution, and possession of child pornography is a serious crime that has severe consequences. It is also a reminder that law enforcement agencies are committed to working together to protect our communities and hold perpetrators accountable.
