Hinton Man’s Child Pornography Habit Lands Him 10-Year Sentence

A Hinton man has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, a crime that could land him behind bars for 10 years. David Alan Hunt, 39, admitted to possessing child pornography of prepubescent minors on an iPad at his residence in Hinton on January 22, 2021.

Hunt was already on supervised release for a 2014 federal child pornography conviction when he committed the crime. His supervising United States Probation Officer recovered the iPad containing the child pornography during a home visit. This is Hunt’s second federal child pornography conviction in seven years.

Hunt’s guilty plea comes after an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Probation Office. Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston commended the investigative work of the agencies involved.

United States District Court Judge Frank W. Volk will preside over Hunt’s sentencing on October 18, 2021. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and up to 20 years in prison. Hunt also faces consecutive prison time as a result of violating his supervised release.

Assistant United States Attorneys Kristin F. Scott and Jennifer Rada Herrald are handling the prosecution. The case is part of a larger effort to combat child pornography in the United States.
