Gregory Kurzajczyk, Child Pornography Distribution, New York 2023

Gregory Kurzajczyk, 69, of East Durham, New York, is headed to federal prison for 72 months after pleading guilty to distributing and receiving child pornography. The sentence, handed down in Albany, marks the end of a years-long investigation into his digital exploitation of children.

U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and James C. Spero, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Buffalo, confirmed the sentencing today. Kurzajczyk’s actions were described as deliberate and technologically facilitated, using file-sharing networks to trade in the vile abuse of minors.

U.S. District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino imposed a lifetime term of supervised release, which will begin the moment Kurzajczyk walks out of prison. He will also be required to register as a sex offender, a mandate that follows him for life and exposes his crimes to the public.

According to court documents, between July 16, 2014, and January 19, 2015, Kurzajczyk used an Internet file-sharing application to both download and distribute child pornography. His guilty plea, entered September 2, 2016, laid bare the extent of his criminal conduct—images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children flooded in and out of his possession.

The case was a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Colonie Police Department, with additional support from the U.S. Secret Service. Their digital forensic work peeled back layers of obfuscation, tracing the files directly to Kurzajczyk’s home network.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Barnett prosecuted the case, driving home the federal government’s stance that online child exploitation will be met with maximum penalties. Kurzajczyk’s 6-year sentence sends a message: predators lurking behind screens will be hunted down and exposed.
