Brandon Kie, Child Pornography Receipt, New York 2024

Brandon Kie, 31, of Apalachin, New York, is headed to federal prison for five years after admitting to downloading more than 500 images and 12 videos of child pornography using peer-to-peer file-sharing software. The sentencing, handed down today, marks the end of a federal case rooted in the darkest corners of the internet, where Kie accessed explicit material depicting minors in sexually abusive and sadistic acts.

Kie pleaded guilty in September 2016 to one count of receiving child pornography, a charge that carries severe penalties under federal law. According to court documents, in 2014, he used a computer to connect to multiple child porn websites, systematically downloading graphic files that included minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Investigators say some of the videos showed acts of extreme degradation and violence.

Following his 60-month prison term, Kie will face an additional 15 years under court supervision—a period during which his internet use, employment, and movements will be tightly monitored. He is also required to register as a sex offender upon release, a lifelong legal burden that follows those convicted of exploiting children.

The FBI’s Albany Division led the investigation, tracking digital footprints that led directly to Kie’s home in the Southern Tier town of Apalachin. Using forensic technology, agents uncovered a pattern of deliberate and repeated access to illicit networks where child exploitation material is traded like currency among predators.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Miroslav Lovric prosecuted the case, emphasizing the role of federal task forces in disrupting online child exploitation. ‘This sentence sends a clear message: we are watching, we are tracing, and we will prosecute to the fullest extent,’ said Lovric. ‘Every download perpetuates the abuse of real children.’

The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide DOJ initiative targeting online predators. The program coordinates federal, state, and local law enforcement to identify offenders, rescue victims, and dismantle networks that distribute child pornography.
