Daniel Beal, a 56-year-old man from Utica, New York, is headed to federal prison for seven years after pleading guilty to distributing, receiving, and possessing child pornography. The sentence, handed down today in Syracuse, marks the end of a years-long investigation into Beal’s digital exploitation of children.
Beal admitted to using a peer-to-peer file-sharing program to trade and download graphic child sexual abuse material. Federal prosecutors say the network he accessed was a dark corner of the internet where predators swap videos of the most horrific abuse—material Beal not only consumed but actively distributed.
In July 2015, FBI agents raided Dacobe Enterprises, LLC, Beal’s business, and seized electronic devices that revealed hundreds of child pornography videos. Among them were images and recordings of children as young as two years old being sexually assaulted—evidence that sealed Beal’s fate in court.
U.S. District Judge Brenda K. Sannes imposed a 15-year term of supervised release, which will kick in the moment Beal walks out of prison. He will be under strict monitoring, subject to searches, and barred from unsupervised contact with minors.
As a convicted sex offender, Beal will be required to register in every jurisdiction he lives in for the rest of his life. That status follows him like a brand, exposing his crimes to communities and law enforcement alike.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Albany Division and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey J. L. Brown as part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative targeting online child exploitation.
