Crime Pays: Mira Health, a dietary supplement manufacturer, has been caught red-handed violating FDA regulations.
In a brazen attempt to cut corners, Mira Health Ltd. and its top executives have been accused of manufacturing and distributing adulterated dietary supplements. The company’s lax manufacturing practices allowed for contaminated and deteriorated products to slip through the cracks, putting innocent consumers at risk.
The Justice Department has filed a complaint and entered a consent decree against Mira Health Ltd., its chief operating officer Michael S. Ragno Sr., and quality assurance manager Michael S. Ragno Jr. The decree prohibits them from committing further violations of the FDA‘s Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA).
The FDA’s investigation was sparked by a 2013 recall of Purity First Health Ltd.’s Healthy Life Chemistry By Purity B-50 dietary supplement, which contained anabolic steroids. At the time, 29 illnesses and one hospitalization had been documented.
Assistant Attorney General Stuart F. Delery and U.S. Attorney Loretta E. Lynch made the announcement, stating that Mira Health’s actions were a clear violation of the FDCA’s requirements for dietary supplement manufacturers.
The consent decree requires Mira Health to cease all operations and undergo rigorous inspections before resuming manufacturing. If the company fails to comply, it risks facing further action from the FDA and the Justice Department.
Mira Health’s reckless disregard for consumer safety is a stark reminder of the importance of strict regulations in the supplement industry. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
