Mission Man Charged in Post Office Burglary

MISSION, SOUTH DAKOTA – In a shocking turn of events, a 26-year-old man from Mission, South Dakota, has been charged with burglary of a post office and theft of mail.
Jesse Robinson, age 26, was indicted on August 21, 2013, for allegedly breaking into the United States Post Office in Mission on June 17, 2013, and stealing multiple pieces of first-class mail matter containing prescription medications.
According to the indictment, Robinson could face up to 5 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund on each count. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Postal Service and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers is prosecuting the case.
Robinson was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The U.S. Attorney’s office announced the indictment, stating that the charges are merely accusations, and Robinson’s guilt has yet to be proven in a court of law.
Robinson’s case is a stark reminder of the importance of postal security and the devastating consequences of mail theft.
