Anthony Marcus Kelly, Online Death Threats, Ohio 2024

A federal grand jury has indicted Anthony Marcus Kelly, 38, of Cincinnati, for allegedly making multiple death threats against ICE agents online.

According to the indictment, Kelly used the social media username “Slab” to call for the killing of ICE officers and detailed his acquisition of firearms to carry out the threat. In one post, Kelly wrote “Why even bother with these damn courts anymore. #Gestapedos don’t deserve anything but the smoke coming for them anyway. #RevolutionIsTheSolution #DestroyICE they’re rabid dogs that need to be put down. Including #KristiNoem #DogmeatWalking.”

In another post, Kelly allegedly wrote, “You come here for me, you’re getting shot. And I’m not looking to disable […] I’m shooting for the kill. I won’t give a **** about your names, who you are, or anything else”. These posts were made between June 26 and July 17, and led to Kelly’s arrest on July 22.

Kelly is charged in a two-count indictment with making threats to assault or murder a United States official and with making threatening interstate communications. Threatening to assault or murder a United States official is a federal crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Making threatening interstate communications carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison.

The case is being handled by Dominick S. Gerace II, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, HSI Detroit acting Special Agent in Charge Jared Murphey and FBI Cincinnati Special Agent in Charge Elena Iatarola. Criminal Chief Christy L. Muncy is representing the United States in this case.

An indictment merely contains allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Kelly remains in federal custody pending trial.

The investigation and subsequent indictment of Kelly demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to protecting federal officials from threats and violence. The case serves as a reminder that making threats against law enforcement or other government officials is a serious crime with severe consequences.
