Mission Man Charged With Burglary And Assault

Crime Spree in Mission, South Dakota

A brutal crime has shaken the small town of Mission, South Dakota. Marlow Poor Thunder, an 18-year-old man, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for First Degree Burglary, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

According to the indictment, Poor Thunder and other defendants allegedly entered two residences at Soldier Creek on July 2, 2013, and assaulted a victim with a metal object, causing serious bodily injury.

Poor Thunder appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on April 4, 2014, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 25 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 5 years of supervised release, and up to $700 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers is prosecuting the case.

Poor Thunder was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, which has been set for June 3, 2014. The charges against Poor Thunder are merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The people of Mission, South Dakota, are left to pick up the pieces and wonder what drove Poor Thunder to commit such a heinous crime. The trial is set to begin in just a few weeks, and the community is holding its breath as they await justice.
