Crime Spree Hits Small Town
A brazen burglary at a Mission, South Dakota post office has left residents shaken. Jesse Robinson, 27, has been sentenced to six months in custody for his role in the crime.
According to court documents, Robinson was convicted of Burglary of a Post Office after he used a crowbar to pry open a window on the front of the U.S. Post Office in Mission in June 2013.
The thief made off with four first-class COD envelopes containing mail-ordered prescription medication, valued at an unknown amount. The crime was a brazen act of theft that has left many in the community wondering how someone could commit such a crime.
Robinson’s conviction arose from an indictment by a federal grand jury on August 21, 2013, and he later pled guilty to Burglary of a Post Office on May 27, 2014.
As part of his sentence, Robinson will serve two years of supervised release, including six months of home confinement. He will also pay $888.96 in restitution and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced the sentencing, which was meted out by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on August 28, 2014. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the U.S. Post Office and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
Robinson will report to the U.S. Marshals Service on September 2, 2014, to begin serving his sentence. This case serves as a reminder that crime will not be tolerated in our community, and those who commit such crimes will be held accountable.
