Two Mission Men Charged in Todd County Burglaries

Todd County, SD – A brazen burglary and theft scheme has landed two Mission men in hot water with the law. Preston White Feather and Nicola Black Lance, both 18 years old, have been charged with two counts of Third Degree Burglary and two counts of Larceny.

According to court documents, White Feather and Black Lance allegedly entered or remained in the Todd County government building on August 20, 2014, with the intention of stealing property worth over $1,000. And they didn’t stop there. Just four days later, on August 24, 2014, the pair returned to the same building and stole even more property, valued at over $1,000.

The maximum penalty for these crimes is 10 years in custody and/or a $2,000,000 fine, at least 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

White Feather and Black Lance were remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after appearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on November 20, 2014, and pleading not guilty to the Indictment.

The investigation into this case is being led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher will be prosecuting the case.

The charges against White Feather and Black Lance are merely accusations, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty. A trial date has not been set, but we will keep a close eye on this developing story and bring you updates as more information becomes available.
