MISSION WOMAN JAILED FOR HIDING FELON’S CRIMES
A 21-year-old woman from Mission, South Dakota, has been sentenced to six months in custody for her role in concealing felony crimes committed by her friends.
Chelsea Larvie, 21, was sentenced on June 1, 2015, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange for Misprison of a Felony, a federal offense that carries severe penalties.
On August 26, 2014, Larvie was aware that her friends had committed burglary and larceny offenses at the Todd County government building. However, instead of reporting the crime, she chose to conceal her knowledge of the felony offenses from law enforcement authorities.
Larvie was not only aware of the crimes, but she also misled authorities, further complicating the investigation. Her actions were discovered when she was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 9, 2014.
Larvie subsequently pleaded guilty to the charges on March 2, 2015. She was sentenced to six months in custody, with credit for six months served, one year of supervised release, a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and $8,638.31 in restitution.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher prosecuted the case.
Larvie was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following her sentencing. The sentence sends a strong message that concealing felony crimes will not be tolerated and that those who engage in such behavior will face severe consequences.
The sentence is a significant blow to Larvie, who will now have to serve time in custody for her role in hiding her friends’ crimes. Her case serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting crimes and cooperating with law enforcement authorities.
